We caught up with Vincenz Klemm (Founder & CEO) to hear how Baobab is turning AI into a real-time shield for digital businesses:
How did you start your entrepreneurial journey?
Unlike most startup entrepreneurs, I didn’t sell ice cream cones out of a garage at the age of five. I co-founded Gabi, an insurance platform, in San Francisco in 2016, at the relatively mature age of 26. Together with my co-founders and our team, we built Gabi into a leading platform for auto and home insurance in the U.S. Baobab Insurance is my second venture—and this time, I was drawn to explore the insurance value chain at a deeper, more foundational level.
What is the company’s mission and how do you plan to pursue it?
Our mission is to help organizations reduce digital risk by combining cutting-edge technology, deep domain expertise, and insurance. We’re focused on building solutions that are not only effective, but also accessible and actionable for our customers.
Tell us the story behind starting the company
Anton Foth and I decided to start the company because we saw an opportunity to solve a challenge that, if successful, could create meaningful value for society—not through altruism or an impact-driven mission, but simply by building something genuinely useful. It felt like the kind of purpose we’d be excited to dedicate the next chapter of our careers to.
What is your moat? How do you think you stand out?
We’re building a digital underwriting champion that leverages vast amounts of data and proprietary technology across the entire lifecycle of an insurance policy – from empowering our broker partners to sell more policies more efficiently, to underwriting and pricing risks with greater precision, to delivering real-time, actionable risk mitigation strategies to our customers. The result is a virtuous cycle in which value is created and shared among all stakeholders: customers, brokers, and carriers alike
